Welcome to VLab

History

VLab was founded in 2013 as a virtual research laboratory

to provide research assistant (RA) opportunities, particularly to Spelman students.

The lab was named in honor of the many Spelman students who refer to Dr. Viceisza as "Dr. V".

Since its founding, VLab has extended RA opportunities to more than 45 Spelman students.

Graduate students have also worked with VLab on collaborative projects in partnership with institutions such as

Duke University, Georgia State University, Howard University, and the University of Maryland, College Park.

Where Are VLab Alumnae now?

More than half of VLab alumnae have completed or enrolled into graduate programs at institutions such as Columbia University,

What Topics Does Dr. Viceisza Work on?

Dr. Viceisza is an experimental and behavioral economist that studies topics in development, household finance, and entrepreneurship, particularly in marginalized communities. There are three running threads in his work. First, he hopes to inform policies to combat poverty and thus, create wealth. Second, he seeks to advance economics methodology, particularly using experimentation. Third, he aims to strengthen the next generation of scholars through teaching and mentoring. This video also describes some of his work.
